MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

IMG_2479.jpg

My earliest memories of art often refer back to elementary school when we did the art masters program. My dad had spent a lot of time coming into our class to teach us about artists and to show us how to make master’s pieces. This was one of my first exposures to the art world and the first step I took in the direction of pursuing art. Over the next 10+ years I have been saving my art and progress in paintings, sketchbooks, on torn out paper, scratch paper, notepads, even drawing on my hands during class.  I have learned a lot over the years, most of my knowledge being self taught, but I have recently started a new era of learning all sorts of skills and practices in school.

Being a self taught artist comes with a lot of pros and cons. I give myself a complete range of creative freedoms, but at times it can be challenging to fix problems or to improve on my skill sets because I only know so much. Being able to reach out to my peers and accept critical feedback was a scary move to face, but with it came a lot of new knowledge and a whole new learning experience.

The art world can get quite intimidating, but thankfully I’ve received a lot of love and support from my family and peers. They have continued to encourage me and have helped me overcome fears in completing some complex pieces. I have even been given the opportunity to share some pieces with people I look up to, one of them being my hero and inspiration, Lando Norris. This moment has inspired me to continue practicing what I love to do, exercising all skill sets, being open to peer critiques and notes, and has encouraged me to help teach others.

I never knew that what started as a hobby as a kid would shape my entire future that lies ahead of me. I hope to be able to share my art skills and knowledge with many years of students and to help encourage and give that final push to those who wish to pursue art. This pathway paved ahead of me will open up new opportunities to present my own works and share new learning experiences that I was able to encounter as a student.
